This is the second time that the Japanese have paid mega bucks for tuna. Clearly the tuna is of good quality but I think more importantly the fish was caught in Janpanese waters. The person/fish company said that he bought the fish partly for nationalistic or perhaps marketing reasons

Actually the Japaneese paid $245,000 for a 650 lb bluefin caught of the coast to Japan. They must really like their fish.

Actually, Japan pays these prices, there was a 650 Bluefin recently caught of the coast of Japan that went for $350,000US. The Quality of the meat is important. In North America the price is more like$30 to $35 per pound
