This is a virtual reality simulation showing how the 6 May 1976 earthquake destroyed the Gothic Cathedral of Venzone, Italy. More information on this project and a higher resolution video at http://hcilab.uniud.it/earthquake/

  • Awsome vid 5/5

What programme was used to make this?

  • A mix of 3DS + some custom-made software.

  • I'm confused with the simulation on one aspect. You say that it is Gothic and yet the arches were mainly rounded, and rounded arches were of the romanesque period. Other than that the simulation was cool.

  • We took the "gothic" adjective from the descriptions of the building that are available on the Web. For example, on Wikipedia: "The Duomo (Cathedral), erected by the master Giovanni in 1338. It is a noteworthy Gothic edifice with a simple façade with a portal decorated by reliefs of Saints and Christ, a tall bell tower and the apse area with high windows flanked by Gothic pilasters."
