Morgan Shepherd crashes hard at Atlanta, 1998

Running under the lights at Atlanta during the season-ending NAPA 500 after numerous rain delays, Morgan Shepherd, driving the #8 Chevy for the Stavola Brothers in what would be that team's final race, slams the outside wall after making contact with Jeff Gordon, who attempted to storm by and take the sixth position.

Man, I loved that whole day, when the turned the lights on at Atlanta it was the absolute best way to close out the 1998 season and the best season of Jeff Gordon's career.

Morgan was doing great. I remember that race it had rained all day, which was why it was night time, great race.

I can't believe he wrecked someone when he knew he had a 300 pt or so lead coming into this race and he knew he had it locked up. He should of just been a little patient and not drive so hard. Why do that when you already have 12 wins in the 1998 season. Just settle in there and get a top 10 finish don't drive so hard. And by the way he won the race. I just can't believe he did that.
