Former Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force Robert D. Gaylor was adviser to Secretary of the Air Force John C. Stetson and Chiefs of Staff of the Air Force Gen. David C. Jones and Gen. Lew Allen Jr. on matters concerning welfare, effective utilization and progress of the enlisted members of the Air Force. He was the fifth chief master sergeant appointed to this ultimate noncommissioned officer position.  In 2006, the NCO academy at Lackland AFB was named the Robert D. Gaylor NCO Academy in his honor.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

I first heard this story when Chief Gaylor told it in 1994. It is still as impactful as it was then.

    Awesome Individual!

A must hear. Great words from my good friend CMSgt AF #5 Bob Gaylor. A dear friend and leader of our Air Force. His words are always from the heart. CMSgt Dwayne F. Hopkins

I have had the privilege of listening to this man speak two times now. I'm a SrA in the Air Force and not only had he inspired me with this story before but today he gave another speech in front of 13 airmen in my ALS class. He was five feet away from me speaking about his son Kenny Gaylor and the investment of his basketball shoes. If you haven't heard that story, look it up. This man should have not only been the 5th CMSgt of the Air Force, he should have been president. Thanks Chief!

Amazing how this develops from light-hearted storytelling to true wisdom. I was just plain entertained for most of it, then walked away with a new point of view of leadership, motivation and inspiration.
