The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) is NASA's first step in returning humans to the Moon and extending human presence into the solar system. LRO will create the comprehensive atlas of the Moon's features and resources necessary to design and build the lunar outpost. The mission is scheduled to launch in late 2008 and will focus on the selection of safe landing sites, identification of lunar resources and study how the lunar radiation environment will affect humans.

  • This was a very cool mission and a great video reminder, I also remember hearing about footprint trails being visible from the apollo mission. old post but a good one ty :)

  • @angstotheclown A few miles!! you mean 31 miles, you try taking a picture of a object that far away.

  • Although Google uses the word satellite, most of the high-resolution imagery is aerial photography taken from aircraft flying at 800–1500 feet rather than from satellites.

  • The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera, has a resolution of about half a meter. That means that a half-meter square on the Moon's surface would fill a single pixel in its digital images.

Apollo moon buggies are about 2 meters wide and 3 meters long. So in the LROC images, those abandoned vehicles will fill about 4 by 6 pixels.

  • @angstotheclown

ARE YOU FUCKING THAT DUMB? the majority of urban "satellite" image on Google maps are aerial photos taken by aircrafts with high resolution cameras flying 800 feet altitude, you comparing that to LRO?!?! more then 31 miles altitude?... the Majority of the land mass taken by real satellite are just 2D image no better then the LRO, not to mention google has a huge network of satellites to get data from. its clear who is the ill informed dumbass and lacks critical thinking.

  • @angstotheclown at the orbit those pictures were taken its 4 feet per pixel, the Apollo platform is 12 diameter... that is just 9 pixels. that is about what the photo's did show, the CURRENT orbit change from a elliptical to near circular, at 31mile altitude, it will take ALLOT more fly bys to reach the landing sites, because its covering less ground per orbit, they are not there for the landing sites . maybe you should get some facts down before you go around spewing retard juice on everyone.

  • @angstotheclown

if its "doctored photoes" why does it show "nothing" you think NASA don't know how to use photoshop? the LRO was able to take pictures of the footprint trails of the mission... who do you think left those? moon cows? dumb ass...

  • @angstotheclown

hi there.. go fuck yourself.. do you understand that? how is that for bad english? do they teach you that in school? maybe just ask around next time on the short bus, and get yourself check for neural parasite

  • @ccaptorchen Me no understand you bad english. go school back study hardly okey dokey? Moron.

  • @TheJomogogo You morons just don't get it do you? Satellite orbits the moon, CLOSE TO THE MOON IN ORBIT AROUND THE MOON NOT THE EARTH. SATELLITE TAKES SHITTY PICS OF THE MOON. NO LANDING SITES. DOCTORED PHOTOS SHOWING NOTHING. GET IT? Ferfucksake.
