A wonderful video tribute to Emile Benoit [1913-1992]. This was the last major work of this master fiddler and storyteller from L'Anse-a-Canards on the Port-au-Port Peninsula in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Thank you very much for sharing. :-)

I grew up with a guy named Israel (T-boy) Rouzes from cape st.george (just the other side of the peninsula from Emile) who used to do an excelent version of this...I think even Emile himself would have been proud to hear it !

A couple of summers ago when I was to a festival in Mainland, on the Port au Port Peninsula, and a group from St. Pierre et Miquelon sang this song, it was a beautiful rendition! But I like Emile's version much better! He only sings part of the original French lyrics, but he captures the necessary lyrics to paint a picture of the song in your head as you are listening! I often listen to this song before I got to sleep at night! R.I.P my bubby, you are dearly missed! Thank you!
