Planar texture mapping
What are the benefits of planar texturing? Planar texturing can fix or remove unwanted distortion. To use this tool, Right-click on the object then select Edit. Next choose Mapping -- Planar. Planar switches to texture coordinates which prevent distortion on flat surfaces. Planar (which means flat) mapping doesn't depend on the size of the face; it's like a projector making the screen bigger without changing the projection size. Planar texture mapping works well with flat surfaces. You may need to adjust the other options until you get what you want, most textures need to have numbers fine-tuned, in the Texture menu, for best results. Experiment with this tool and the options to see what works best for you.

  • @sipinhennessey23 btw its not a program its a virtual world you can build in yahoo for "Second Life"

  • torley please show me how to do a window with a frame for sl.

  • oh thanks, lol didnt realize

  • THANKS SO MUCH FOR THIS POST, it really helped. Id been wondering how to fix the prob for ages as I was trying to texture the decking of my ship as the deck tapered to the end.

  • Actually there is wind in secondlife its for flexiprims scripts and linden trees lol

  • Hmm

  • wht program is that?

  • What wind? There is no wind in second life. It's just an illusion.

  • The place where I've gotten the most use out of this is in building ships. The floors taper as you get to the front and rear of the boat. Using planar mapping on the texture makes it really easy to line those textures up with the non-tapered prims in the center section.

  • Torley, thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I've been trying to fix the roof panels on my house for 6 months now, and nobody I asked knew what to do. This is me doing a Happy Dance! Look out spanish tiles, I've got you now. *GRIN* Be well, Bellini
