Well......it all depends on layout. the house can look appealing and not depressing if they willing to engage a good designer who is articulate abt space relations and overall look of the house to design their house. HDB flats is not something negative if u know how to. Majority dwellers dun treat their house like home to live in.But instead, the house fits them not they fit in the house. i hope u get wad i am trying to say here. :)
