Ingrown Toenails

Ingrown toenails often are the result of trimming your toenails too short, particularly on the sides of your big toes.

While they are common, ingrown toenails can be painful. When trimming your nails, avoid tapering the corners so that the nail curves with the shape of your toe. The sides of the nail will curl down and dig into your skin. Shoes that are too tight or short also may cause ingrown toenails.

Ingrown toenail start out hard, swollen and tender, and later, may become sore, red and infected. Your skin may start to grow over the ingrown toenail.

Soaking your foot in warm, soapy water several times each day is usually a good way to treat an ingrown nail. Please contact our office to determine the best course of treatment for your condition.

Antibiotics are sometimes prescribed if an infection is present. Part of your ingrown toenail (partial nail plate avulsion) may need to be surgically removed if an acute infection occurs. The procedure involves injecting the toe with an anesthetic and cutting out the ingrown part of the toenail.

You can prevent ingrown toenails by:
Trimming your toenails straight across with no rounded corners.
Ensuring that your shoes and socks are not too tight.
Keeping your feet clean at all times.

@GitsKyle I sufer from these too for more than 25 years and relative of mine told me that use Desitine is a good remedy try it because it probably got something to do with the way we cut the Toe nail.

is there anyway to fix an ingrown toenail without surgery? I've already had one operation for one of the bigtoes now the other one has been an ingrown toenail for a couple years what can i do please help me "[

What is the proper and healthy way to clip your toe nails? I think mine might be starting to be in grown. Should I cut the sides or not?

the shot when they numb it burns for about 15 seconds when there injecting it my doctor put something over me and said be right back he didn't leave he pulled it out in about a minute and i didn't notice :):)

you know how all those people said it hurt like hell....it didn't really hurt they put this cold spray on my toe and it numbed it a little and then the shot barely hurt.

i found out that i cut the corners too short cuz i was bored so i did that and i also found out that my shoes were to small so both of the things happend to me at once im geting surgery on both toes today and im sooo scared
