What she is telling is a message that our scientist go to buildings and such to figure out our life history and times, first which isn't correct, but also what we are taught period has been revised till it has no reality anymore. Christopher Columbus is the testimony after that no school could teach my kid. Don't believe it just take a minute and read it.

@sweetbippity : you're absolutely right of course ( although 'in the year 2000' makes sense,as Mama's Gun was released that year) .
A.D. stands for Amadou Diallo , who was killed in 1999.
Erykah lets him make this statement, one year after his death.
