If you're stuck near the ocean with access only to salt water you may want to give this a try. This simple desalination / desalinization, or desalinisation still removes salt from salt water and gives you potable water when you're done. In this version I use 1 pot to boil water, aluminum foil totrap the condensation, which is then funneled through a hydration reservoir tube, down into a catchment container. A wet cloth is used to aid condensing of the steam.

This was my first try and it worked well, except for some escaping steam. Be responsible, be careful and have fun!

  • I saw immediately that your S-trap would cause a pressure problem since your funnel really isn't sealed that tight. honestly you really wouldn't need cooling on the tube. Air would cool the tube enough and if it didn't the glass pop bottle would. Also a longer tube would help, and as you mentioned cooler temps help. bury that pop bottle halfway in the wet sand would also work well. After it doesn't really matter where it condenses as long as most of it does condense.

  • @consaka1 It sounds like you've done this before! Great ideas! Thanks!
