  • Standard violin tuning, what everbody uses these days, no matter what tune. GDAE

  • @mattxr2i lol, sounds like me. I started with the Butterfly, which isn't to hard, and then I went straight to the Contradiction, which is extremely fun. I probably should've done her "Reels" second, but oh well. btw, if you're wondering, the tunes in the butterfly are 1, the butterfly, 2, the old dudeen, 3. the fair haired lass. it took quite a while to figure that out :P

  • what tuning are yo using, im a noob

  • @mattxr2i I'm trying that as well, but more often than not, I need to slow it WWWAAAAAYYY, dowwwn because I learn by ear.

  • @donnyob123 i love sligo stuff!!

  • This helped explain what was missing in the reels I play. I'm working on grace notes and the fast tremolos. And of course I can't start easy lol. I'm learning the reels played by Mairead Nesbitt :-)

  • Great Sligo fiddling.

  • Holy smokes... well played!

  • thanks for the detailed instructions on ornaments and fiddle style. I play classical, but want to learn how to fiddle. of course all the fiddlers never play the music how it's written, since there are so many ornaments and it's hard to catch all of it when they play so fast! thanks for slowing it down.

  • in the beginning just play up and down strokes alternating. a good rule of thumb is to play down on heavy beats and for long notes. (it's easier to accent when playing down than up). if you have to play up up or down down just move your fingers and keep the bow going in the same direction. if you're already here watching vids, i bet you can learn it on your own soon. ;) gl and have fun playing!
