  • Graceful and fun!

  • @BoraBoraGirl2001 But the U.S. does not dominate the competition. Sure, they are the top in recent times, but during the Soviet time the U.S. was nearly zero in gymnastics. The Soviets did not even notice the Americans in gymnastics from 1952 to 1992.

  • @vonkaunaz At in the last 10 years, with the exception of 2010, the Russian women have FOUGHT to be on the medal podium. Again, not exactly domination.

  • @BoraBoraGirl2001 And the women won ZERO.

  • @vonkaunaz Are you high? Russia won only two gymnastics medals in Bejing (both bronze), that were won by the same man. I would hardly call that "domination" or being a "major factor."

  • @BoraBoraGirl2001 You know, I actually liked the five tumbling passes at one time. Soon after, I realized that real DANCE was virtually extinguished from floor routines. Even today it's just a couple of poses thrown in haphazardly between ugly leap series and tumbles. What I would give to see a routine like this today...but gymnastics has moved on. I guess all we can do is hope the next code is better and Grandi isn't head of FIG anymore.

  • @BoraBoraGirl2001 Ummm...3rd place in the medal table in Beijing, 3rd place in Athens (with 29 more medals than China who took 2nd), 2nd in Sydney, 2nd in Atlanta...this is as Russia after the USSR...if i go back starting from Barcelona 92 the Soviets/Russians squeezed the living hell out of the USA in most summer olympics, beat them in ALL Winter Olympics, and ALL universiades...so your definition of "not being a major factor at the Olympics" should be a pretty bizarre one..

  • @JohnPhilipSousa519 I agree. Comparing these gymnasts to today's elites is utterly ridiculous. For one, today's girls are required to do FAR more difficult skills, and more of them, than the girls of the 60s, 70s and 80s could have ever dreamed. Also, the Code of Points places far less emphasis on dance and choreography than it did in the past. That's why you don't see routines like Omelianchik's anymore.

  • @vonkaunaz Huh? Have you been watching the last two or three Olympics and the last 10 or so World championships? Yes, Russia won the team title in 2010, but we beat them at last year's World's by more than four points. Before 2010, they were struggling to win bronze. Additionally, they have not been a major factor at the Olympics for quite a while. I would urge you to do some research before you make those kinds of statements.

  • @JohnPhilipSousa519 : Shawn surely was a superb gymnast...but hey...the Soviet "Pixies" always, repeat, always more than beat the U.S.A. in gymnastics in absolutely all summer Olympics and world championships...in fact the U.S.A. was never a factor in gymnastics to the Soviet "pixies".
