The fact is that Islam is not a 'Religion' in the conventional sense of the word. Rather it is an encompassing way of life that has a viewpoint on all matters. E.g Economic standards for world trade (gold and silver standard), A standard for governance ( one ruler with consultation in permissible areas) and a viable social system that if implemented would solve the problems that the West and aspiring western nations have as a daily reality (knife crime and rape to give two examples).

People pre-Islamic Arabs had many gods and goddesses. .. allah is their supreme god.

After muhammad came, the god who is worshiped only one, allah.

So they still worship the same god but just get rid of the other gods. (Change from polytheism to monotheism).

Moslem also continued to worship the black stone Kaaba as the time of paganism.
