Is that duke alaric with the byzantine shield? If so , does anyone know where to get a shield blank like that? I've been looking for it and have come up short.

@Dukex3 I've checked windrose and they (at least from everything that i've seen) reproduce that design of shield. Unless they just added it or i'm blind (which could very well be.) Cause that's an angled top not a tear drop style, no?

@TheEasternFighter Windrose will make any size shield you want. Just send them a template and they can reproduce it.

These swords weight about 2 lbs the shields between 8 and 10 lbs

I've read a lot of negative views on SCA fighting in the HEMA forums, but I'm impressed with the speed and strength of the strikes shown here. Nowhere near the uncontrolled series of buffalo strikes I was lead to expect from the Hema crowd. Much better than most current single hand sword/mace and shield work in current HEMA in fact. Going down on the knees to simulate a leg wound is really dumb though, and the SCA should get rid of it.

you should understand that Duke Alaric and myself represent the top 5% of of the SCA skill level. So what you see in this practice fight may not be typical of every SCA fighter you might watch.

As far as going to our knees - well, that is part of our sport. It's ok if you don't understand or approve.

I am sure there are things in HEMA that I would not understand as well.

@TheEasternFighter If that is your shield what is the height and width of it? I have a template already drawn up that i was going to have a friend make but (with all due respect to my housemate) i trust windrose more with the reproduction.

I've read in both Thucydides and Herodotus of people fighting from their knees after receiving leg wounds. In one account two generals are fighting in single combat with one on his knees. The legged man managed to cut his opponent's throat before bleeding out himself. Good times. Forgive me for not citing specific page numbers, if it's mission critical, I'll get them for you.
