MATCH OF THE EIGHTIES - 1982-83 SEASON

The third from a six-part series, first broadcast by the BBC in 1997, in which Danny Baker takes a retrospective look back at the previous decade's football.

Big Ron Atkinson attempts to fashion a title-challenging side at Man United, who hope to be the biggest threat to Liverpool, themselves fielding a young and unknown forward by the name of Ian Rush. However, it's Graham Taylor and Elton John whose Watford side mount the biggest push this season. Meanwhile, Bobby Robson leaves Ipswich to take over the England job.

  • Got to love the 'OFF THE PITCH PLEASE... DOG' message on the Kenilworth Road scoreboard at 1:02!

I thought that 10 years ago when I saw this when MOT-80s originally got broadcast! Though those were the days when Ron Atkinson was relatively politically correct..
