From Portland by Kevin Burke and the late Micheal Ui Domhnaill

a) Lucy's Fling
b) S'iomadh Rud A Chunnaic Mi
(I have seen many things)
c) Some Say The Devil Is Dead

Pictures from Uist, Sutherland and Easkey, Co. Sligo. Kevin Burke was born in England but his parents were from Co. Sligo. My GGM's GGM was a Burke. The Burke brothers came to North Uist to help set up the kelp industry there (late 18th c.)

S'iomadh rud a chunnaic mi
S'iomadh rud a rinn mi
S'iomadh rud a chunnaic mi
A-muigh air feadh na h-oidhche
S'iomadh rud a chunnaic mi
S'iomadh rud a rinn mi
S'iomadh rud a chunnaic mi
A-muigh air feadh na h-oidhche

Chunnaic mi na cudaigean
Na cudaigean, na cudaigean
Chunnaic mi na cudaigean
A' cluich air Allt na Muilne
Chunnaic mi na cudaigean
Na cudaigean, na cudaigean
Chunnaic mi na cudaigean
A' cluich air Allt na Muilne

Chunnaic mi na piseagan
Na piseagan, na piseagan
Chunnaic mi na piseagan
Air spiris Mac an t-Saighdeir
Chunnaic mi na piseagan
Na piseagan, na piseagan
Chunnaic mi na piseagan
Air spiris Mac an t-Saighdeir

Many a thing I saw
Many a thing I did
Many a thing I saw
Out during the night
Many a thing I saw
Many a thing I did
Many a thing I saw
Out during the night

I saw the cuddies
The cuddies, the cuddies
I saw the cuddies
Playing on the mill burn
I saw the cuddies
The cuddies, the cuddies
I saw the cuddies
Playing on the mill burn

I saw the kittens
The kittens, the kittens
I saw the kittens
On the soldier's son's roost
I saw the kittens
The kittens, the kittens
I saw the kittens
On the soldier's son's roost

  • The final tune sounds to me like 'Bímse Féin ag Iascaireacht' from the album 'An Raicín Álainn' by Lasairfhíona Ní Chonaola

  • @Athleticsfan958 I'm pretty sure the tune is old.

"Some say the devil's dead, the devil's dead, devil's dead and buried in Killarney.

More say he rose again, rose again, rose again and married Katie Kearney."

  • The pic of the statue of the man sitting down and the man with his bike is in the village where my family are from!

  • @Pepperami369 I already know this. I have been there and I added a note a year ago saying exactly where it is so there is no need to be so coy about saying it is Easkey, Co Sligo :-) The statue is called "The Time of Day."

  • This is gold dust

  • @DJFozter Thanks :-)
