The complete 1979 Denis Mitchell documentary for Granada tv about my home town, Maryport in Cumbria. The film features writer Ray Gosling and music by Mike Moran.
@BritNostalgia Not a problem, I'm just grateful that you took the time to upload it. I also have it lying around on VHS somewhere. So which one were you? One of the young Black Dogs?
@jackthehatphoto Apologies for the quality. The tape is over 20 years old. No doubt someone else in the town might have a better quality copy. I'm in the film myself as a 15 year-old tearaway!
This film is an absolute classic. I would love to see a copy of it in better quality. By the way, My Dad and I star in this at various points. I was only 4 or 5 years old.
@MoodyJill The town looks better cosmetically. The mud-filled docks shown in this film are now a boating marina. A lot of the shops have been replaced with bargain booze outlets and takeaways. I don't think you would like to come here for a holiday. It's more the kind of town you might stop off in for a few hours on your way to somewhere else. Some time soon I'm going to go round the places shown here with my own camera and make a comparative video, using new footage and old from this film.
Very thought-providing study of Maryport, which I knew nothing about until watching this. This was filmed in 1979--did they manage to make the town a place where people would want to go on holiday, while at the same time preserve the beautiful old buildings and avoid turning them into paved parking lots? I surely hope so!
@jackthehatphoto Er...no, not quite! But I was in the Boy's Club and The Palace Ballroom when the disco scenes were filmed.
