The construct of this board was influenced by the late (Sonny Umpad) via: Christopher Charnos- a student of Sonny Umpad many years ago. This was designed to work balance, precision, and low-gait evasions. Dancin' on 2X4's are simple and effective tools to educate the feet for closing and evading techniques.
This six foot frame took some time to get practiced on the board, but now it's time to dance!

  • Concept nice...

    I worry about useage style..

You think it leads you to watch ur feet too much?

I do. But again concept nice. What about sumthin that was only slightly raised off floor that you could feel under your feet yet still use proper foot placemnt?

  • @Artorioux All of your potential worries, and perceptions regarding this tool as an effective way to develop credible and versatile footwork (independent of style) will require MANY hours of practice before adequately coming to an conclusive and accurate judgement.

I've personally spent months on this footboard...you know what I found?... It taught me something new every time I practiced.

  • Sir this is one of the most beautifull footworks I have ever seen. Very fluif, great balance, almost like a dance. I imagine however, that it allows you to outmanneuver an opponent very effectively.

Thank you very much for posting. Shows that beauty and effectivenes can be compatible.

    Greetings

  • Thanks for commenting. Inspired by Sonny Umpad- and yes..he was an exceptional dancer. So the fluidity must shine through in the expression of this work.

  • Sweet. I met Chris Charnos years ago while training with Datu Worden. I remember Chris putting on a demo ... I think it was at the Sonny Umpad seminar at Datu Wordens.

  • Yeah, that sounds about right man. More vids will come!

  • @THEBODYPRACTICE

I totally agree with you. Just other people dont know this and might try to incorporate it into their footwork. silly of me to comment in the first place really. I can see you are very good at what you do and the concept you use here is an excelent way to train footwork in what you do. peace

  • @lifeimprovement19 If you understand Visayan- then you understand it is a stick and knife art. Don't confuse this footwork conditioning to be used for hand to hand applications-although elements of it can be- it is a very blade centered. Keep in mind, that this isn't a tutorial video. I merely am sharing certain elements of conditioning that I've been working on for a very long time- trying to mimic these movements without any acclimation will lead to some problems in the knees, and back.

  • I believe footwork is the most important part of self defense.Though this footwork may be good for knife fighting I find this footwork to be inpractical in a hand to hand self defense situ. Why?It is teaching you to put the wrong leg in front of the other which can put you off balance, not be able to strike back and in a easy position to be attacked especially if you are against someone good. This also puts stress on the knees so not every can do this due to age or physical rstrictions.

  • awesome!

  • I have been involved in the martial arts for many years now. Footwork is the most important part of any art. I have found this to be the most challenging, and at the same time, the most enlightening video on the subject. Thank you for posting this.

  • Nice, I like it!!
