Danny Kaye delights in this whimsical musical that celebrates the circus of life. Free from schoolmaster duties for the summer, amateur archeologist Andrew Larabee (Kaye) arrives at his prospective dig site only to find it inhabited by a circus. While pursuing his dusty dreams, Andrew discovers his true calling might just be more clownish than he had imagined. This musical's already abundant charm is further buoyed by the wonderful score by Saul Chaplin and Johnny Mercer, orchestrated by Nelson Riddle, and the directing debut of Michael Kidd. This CinemaScope charmer is making its home video premiere (with original StereoPhonic Sound intact!) and awaits a worthy rediscovery.
Thumbs up to the rediscovery - it seems "Merry Andrew" has too long been an overlooked treasure :-)
