Note: I've been told this is the ISS! Silly mistake! (Thanks @Dazed767)

Space Shuttle Atlantis (STS-135) passing ~25 miles south of Disney on approach for landing this morning (21-July-2011). Can't see daytime landings at all and can't see nighttime ones either, so dawn/dusk landings are a treat. Paired sonic booms near end.

Shot with Canon T2i, 24mm f1.4 lens, 1/30 shutter, ISO6400

  • Hey that's actually the ISS, it passed from the south to the north 2 minutes or so before the sonic booms. There is a picture from nasa from the ISS with the shuttle re-entering the earth (you can see the long exposure from the heat during decent).

  • @Dazed767 Woah! Really?! Would be a really embarrassing mistake and I have to say I wasn't sure you'd be able to see the shuttle at all - I've never seen it at landing. Thanks!

  • no sonic boom from ISS, Really? yea, the ISS is off earth.

  • I was at the landing. The ISS passed overhead about 5 or 6 minutes before the shuttle. They were in the same orbit.
