  • The approved 3M components for spray painting, which includes automotive, are the following; 3M 6001 organic vapor cartridge, 3M 5P71 prefilter and 501 filter retainer. These attach to the 3M 7500 mask. One thing to keep in mind is that we do not recommend this for urethane paints. Most, though not all, urethane paints have a component called isocyanates. This chemical has no warning properties, is dangerous to your health, and breaks through the charcoal in the cartridge relatively fast.

  • Nice, which of the available cartridges is recommended when spray painting automotive paint ?

  • I use this 3M 7500 series respirator, myself. I think it's worth the extra 10 bucks or so over the older 6000 series model to get this newer soft silicone mask. It's easy to wear and easy to clean. I use the 3M 2091 P100 pancake filters with it, no cartridges needed. They're cheap and popular... Good to use for asbestos protection.
