@gunterpauli, i 'm convinced by the arguements for a steady state economy - that the economy can be made more efficient and can be downscaled to within a state of equilibrium with nature but even then it is not going to be able to meet even present needs. Is there another type of growth?

I love the FX with the hand and the fingers moving the graphics in the video

Well done! Instructive.

Sorry that you thought this is about the ocean. It goes beyond the oceans. There is a major difference that the Blue Economy takes a systems approach that permits to have the commons reinstated, that means that the best for you and the environment is cheap (in the green economy it is expensive) and that the necessary for life (like water) is free.

@gunterpauli , i m not convinced it is possible to meet present needs - food, water, housing, sanitation, basic healthcare etc without growth.

It is possible to respond to the basic needs with a DIFFERENT growth than the one we have known until today.

Well presented without an irritating soundtrack. What is the position with regards growth and ensuring 100% efficiency?

The issue is not to grow - or not to grow. The issue is can we respond to the basic needs of all with what we have. And the answer is yes we can. Then the question is does this hamper growth, all depends on how you measure it but with over a billion people missing water, food, housing, energy, health care ... if we respond to their needs there will be a lot of qualitative growth, as the video on Las Gaviotas posted shows

This doesn't take into account that when you recycle, people buy less and thus the economy is harmed

The Blue Economy is recycling while adding value, replacing unsustainable solutions. Instead of composing coffee waste, you grow mushrooms, generating food, and the waste is great animal feed.
