I have to add one more thing: a lot of todays stars could learn from her. Today they try to beat us over the head with their sex appeal, and that is so cold in comparison to this. There is an art to as being appealing as Gypsy Rose Lee was.

I grew up watching a Hayley Mills movie over and over called "The Trouble With Angels" set in a convent; and Gypsy Rose Lee plays a dance teacher instructing the young novitiates. It's so funny. I think her personality is what made her. She's so funny with a pathos hard to describe. When she speaks she has a kind of lisp and slightly goofy twang that is completely at odds with her exquisite figure and bedroom eyes. It seems to make everything she does innocent and charming.

Gypsy was wonderful! I remember when I was a boy, she had a television talk show. Marvelous lady. Just for the record, she is credited with having invented the "strip tease". She did not actually disrobe completely, just "teased" the audience. They actually filmed her act and put it in one of the war time canteen pictures in the 1940's. Classy lady.

@calihartley2010 and proud of having an open mind not clouded by delusion and imaginary friends! BUH-BYE!
-
One of my parents' favorite stories is when they went to see her perform when they were on their honeymoon. This was 1946 at a vacation spot in northern Wisconsin and her show was considered classy enough for both men and women to attend.

@twilliger123 then you are surely not a Christian. Goodbye.
-
@calihartley2010 No I'm not a so called hypo-Christian!
-
@twilliger123 Well are you that? You need to specify before you make incomplete statements.
@1mothra Haha - sane? Try Cold War, the Cuban Revolution, racial segregation and the start of the Civil Rights Movement, the Dalai Lama fleeing Tibet, the beginning of the AIDS epidemic, uninhibited pollution - and that's all just in the one year that this clip is from. There is no time in history when the world was "sane" - people just forget the insanity in all the nostalgia.
That said, I really do enjoy the clips! Thanks for uploading, NorbertR33!

For a stripper, she sure is classy! But then again, this was when society had class... :)
