The dances have such minimal movement, but I love how very graceful her hands move....!

Ichikazu is her name. She was in John Foster's 100 Views of Maiko and Geiko as a first year maiko photo taken in April of 03. She is wearing Gion Matsuri Kanzashi so this video must have been taken in July of 03.

She dance Gion Kouta, the most known song in geisha districts.Of course every distrct have own version, but look almost same.

The dances are meant to act in relation to the lyrics to convey a story. In this case, the song Gion Kouta (Little Song of Gion), it is rather long kouta piece of four verses that each conveys attractive imagery of one of the seasons along with imagery of maiko. The order is Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, and in each one there is imagery of the maiko's image or of parties with maiko. The ending chorus is the same, translated along the lines of 'How I love the dangling obi of Gion'.
