Could the things which Jaynes referred to as 'auditory hallucinations' have been remnants of what once was the normal system of human communication?

  • Thanks for clearing this up. Sorry if I didn't understand at first, this is a complex set of assumptions and Jaynes' work is fascinating. There is more and more scientific data to corroborate events in the Bible. (e.g.The story of Noah and the flood) I did not believe those that say the Tower of Babel is the reason we were scattered to the 4 corners of the globe and the cause of the evolution of language in humans. When you put it into the context of Jaynes' work, it makes sense. Keep posting !!

The flood is a true story, the idea of God wiping the system like that over any sort of a conduct issue isn't believable in my judgment; I view the flood as part of something our solar system simply got in the way of.

  • @icebear1946 I don't think there is evidence for a flood which covered the whole world. Maybe a major flood in that particular region, but there would be evidence all around us if the entire world was flooded for 40 days and 40 night.

    can't post urls on youtube...

Do a google search on these terms:

    nature flood system bearfabrique

and check the first hit which turns up.

  • @icebear1946 That sounds pretty far-fetched.

  • @SillySantaHat

The main key to the thing is the axis tilts; that would be impossible to explain given the standard version of a history for our system. It's a long story though and it does sound far fetched until you've checked it out pretty thoroughly.

  • My favorite part is that the guy seems to understand how evolution works, but still does not "believe" in it. I'm sure he would say that no one can understand how god works...

  • @icebear1946 Incorrect. The myth of the great flood is borrowed from an ancient Sumarian myth, stolen by Christian mythologists.

  • ...seems interesting; difficult to understand

I haven't taken any actions to disable comments. Other than that, Jaynes' thesis of entire societies governed by a system of 'auditory hallucinations' is obviously unworkable and any group of humans evolving INTO such a state would in fact be at a huge disadvantage. What actually happened at the time of the tower of Babel was that the entire former system of human communication broke down, and the entire human race was in fact in a munged state for several centuries afterward.
