This low-end animation was made for a contest to promote the Ford Mondeo. As things turned out, I'm glad it didn't win because I'd hate to think I did anything to help a company that is now putting the legal screws on car enthusiasts who want to use pictures of their OWN CARS http://www.boingboing.net/2008/01/13/ford-car-owners-are.html
UPDATE: Apparently the legals screws were only applied because of a 'misunderstanding' http://www.boingboing.net/2008/01/25/black-mustang-club-c.html
Nice to know there was a happy ending -- perhaps all the publicity might even help to stop this sort of thing from happening again.
Anyway, they wanted something 'kinetic', and hey, what's more kinetic than.... well, see for yourself.
You guys are right -- they sure don't look much like roaches. But personally I think they look more like ants than spiders ^_^

I was using Vegas 6, which is pretty good editing software, but it's not really designed to be used like this and I wouldn't use it again for this kind of project. It doesn't give you enough control over the animation keyframes and imo the 3d interface is a nightmare. If you're working with 2D layers and trying to fake out depth, I'd suggest you try something like After Effects...
