From the film 'Gold Diggers of 1933' directed by Mervyn LeRoy. The singers at the end of the sequence are Ruby Keeler and Dick Powell.

  • Magical!

  • Watch closely at the end of number when Ruby Keeler throws a flower into the pond. Berkeley reversed the image because Dick Powell is actually to the left of her before the reflection in the pond is shown, where he ihe must be on her right side.

  • When I was a kid, in about 1964, I saw a documentary about Hollywood on TV that had a clip from this number. I was completely astounded and couldn't believe my eyes - were those violins really edged in NEON?

In the 1980s, in New York, I saw a traveling museum exhibit about Hollywood. And there, in a display case, was one of these neon violins.

  • Probably one of the most beautiful sequences of cinematography in it's history.

  • Here's some American schmaltz to celebrate the 4th!

  • Thanks for sharing. One of his best numbers.
