When you dig into it a bit - this group represents the coal industry. I agree with the message, affordable energy is GREAT (I love apple pie and my mom as well). But making the leap to COAL is crazy. If you want affordable energy - go with renewables. The more fossil fuels you burn, then more the next bit costs. With renewables, the more you use, the cheaper the next unit. So which will be the affordable option in 5 years, Wind (getting cheaper) or Coal (getting more expensive)?
What is "affordable energy"? What is this campaign for affordable energy and who are the people involved with it. I had to go the America's Power Army site to figure out what they were talking about...ahh, coal. Given all the hidden costs, like Elisa speaks about and others like climate change and the destruction of our beloved land...coal isn't affordable either. It was sad to me that the folks in this video did not say anything about conserving energy and changing their lifestyles.
For people in Ohio and elsewhere who don't know, our community is currently surrounded by 4 coal-fired power plants and they want to build 5 more. We have the #1 lung cancer death rate and #2 highest cancers combined (ACS) in Ohio, shortest life expectancy (Harvard), highest asthma rate and children least likely to have health insurance (state average ~ 9%; our children 18.9%). The closest emergency room is 45 minutes away, driving the speed limit. Coal is anything but affordable.
