Yes, I remember Denise being written out in '85... It was after the Andy Ferris Murder, which I think was Valentine's Day of '85... Eventually Floyd Parker was revealed as the killer, he went off to jail and I believe Katie dissappeared around that same time.
Well, you know, in funeral scenes it's the polite things to do when you speak highly of a recently deceased person. However, I wouldn't be surprised if during Hillary's time that there wasn't that occasional "you ain't a true Bauer" accusation from time to time...especially when Hillary was written into the Bauer family in a back-handed way through her being the daughter of Bill and another woman. So, yes, by this time in the storyline, all was forgiven and Hillary was welcomed into the family.
I looked up Denise Pence's time on the show as Katie Parker. It's June 1977 through April 1985. Perhaps she was on some sort of hiatus? Perhaps she was in contract talks and wasn't appearing at the time this scene was taped since it lists her last month being April 1985...it's hard to tell. Maybe she opposed the storyline and didn't want to have any part of it?
Right as I watched this I wondered that too... where the H was Katie Parker? I'm sure she was still on the show at this time, being written out sometime in '85 while this was late 1984.
It was really cool to see Marsha Clark playing a nurse on Desperate Housewives..she looked great!!

Bert loved Hillary and thought of her as a daughter.

Katie left town as Floyd's confession was too much for her to take.

I think Bert was genuinely fond of Hillary.

That scene with Bert breaks my heart. Was Hillary *really* that important to the Bauer family or were they just saying all this because she'd died?
