Dr. Ted Daeschler is interested in how fishes with fins and gills evolved into land animals with limbs and lungs (tetrapods). He is best known as the co-discoverer of Tiktaalik, a Late Devonian transitional fossil animal that has been nicknamed the "fishapod". .

Dr. Daeschler works in the Department of Vertebrate Biology at the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia.
