  • This shows that the Carpenters could have taken an entirely different route to success - performing jazz. While Richard is not in the same category as a jazz pianist as say Oscar Peterson or Andre Previn, he is quite competent and showed great promise. Karen's ability as a drummer is simply amazing. She could have been a top drummer. I'm sorry that the Carpenters did not produce some jazz albums. They would have likely appealed to an entirely different audience, adding to their overall success.

  • Good to hear their earlier sounds, Karen's drumming is so awesome!

  • I'm a big Carpenters fan and had no idea either of them could play so well!!

    swingin, baby!!

  • Jazz piano, drums & bass! Wow, the R.C Trio are the most! Karen rippin' up those skins and Richard poundin' the ivories! Takes me back to one of those 50's-60's smokey jazz clubs. Cool cats, daddy-o! This demonstrates Karen's & Richard's incredible musical versatility in their very early years, before they became the sweet, love/lost-love song, Grammy winning pop-rock duo. What once-in-a-lifetime talents they were!

  • Richard Carpenter Trio was: Rich on piano, Karen on drums and Wes Jacobs on tuba and bass. This recording, along with Iced Tea, was made during the summer of 1965 in the Carpenters' living room at the house on Fidler St. (this house no longer exists).

  • @Krichardvn94 , I agree... It seems really scary... I prefer their sweet image :)

  • Karen Spirit

  • I am a huge fan of the Carpenters, but i have to say the pictures look scary...you know, black and white photos are shaking...remind me of some horror films :( But the sound is wonderful =))

  • I love this song, it really brings to light Karen's awesome drumming skills, which many people are not aware of.
