But I can definitely see what pariah is saying...as well as what darkmusician is saying. There is no doubt additional risk, but he couldn't affor to just get fair pounded. I guess you can look at it as a high risk-high reward thing. As long as he kept control and won the spacing battle, it wouldn't hurt him too badly

No because these players have really good spacing, DI and knowledge of positioning. They also have the experience to know when and when not to use it.

It's probably because he's facing Ness. Ness' shorthop f-air has good range and priority and bladewise probably thought that it would beat his standard approaches.
It's kind of like Wario vs GaW, where Wario has to fullhop and double jump to get past GaW's b-air.
