Please check out the channel of YouTube user ThegnThrand, and you will learn how REAL viking/saxon round shields were made and how they handle. You'll be suprized how agile those shields were. Many modern reproductions are mostly indeed too heavy and inaccurate.

That's more accurate. 12lbs wooden shield covered with leather, 25lbs maille, 3lbs helmet, gambeson, shoes, spear, sword.
