Everyone acknowledges that the transporting of slaves from Africa to the New World was an ugly period in human history but, sweet Lord, can you imagine living in a world without this and so much other wonderful music that has arisen from slavery?
Pure bliss!

Well I understand what you're saying. But how they were brought here, and how they were treated should never have happened.

Interesting thought, CP. The essence of Gospel, though, is that it's predicated above all on Hope for a better future, whereas Blues was so often based on Hopelessness. Much modern West African music owes little to the West bar the instruments used to play it! The 'serious' musicians tend to rail against the current corrupt political class, while at the other end, it's pure 'party' music! Listen to the late Fela Kuti, intensely political, his son Femi and the great Youssou n'Dour for pleasure!

I agree this music is bliss...born of suffering, but what music did we miss because of the kidnapping of Africans to America...if Jazz and Blues and R&B came from suffering what amazing music might have come from the opposite.

This woman was the best man what a talent. This is all her no computer crap pure talent. She was the first inspiration to Elvis. He use to go and see her in Local concerts when he was young and he sat in the back just taking it all in. Thank you Rosetta.
