There are about 77 million students in the U.S., including undergrads. 17 million are "secondary" (which includes both middle and HS). If 20% of high schoolers smoke, that's about, at most, about 3.5 million of em smoke. 3.5 million out of 77 million students. That's about 5%. More students in the country do illegal drugs like marijuana or drink. But let's not forget middle schoolers are in that secondary category, so the amount of HSers is EVEN smaller who smoke!! This is ridiculous!
And why is it the GOVERNMENT'S job to "address public health issues"? I mean, yeah, complicated things like pollution the gov't has to regulate cuz we can't always prevent it from affecting our health. But tobacco?? Something a minority of Americans even use, and almost always use VOLUNTARILY?? We don't NEED your gov't guidance, Bernie. We're doing fine on our own. Let us be independent and individuals. We're AMERICANS, not Europeans.
I mean, think about it for a second: Do you REALLY believe that kids in high or middle school would get away with smoking chocolate or strawberry-flavored cigarettes among their peers?? No! Peer pressure would prevent that, and bullying esp. would do it. And besides, where's the EVIDENCE that it's only kids who buy this stuff? Hey, i'm 22. I'm legally an adult, but I still enjoy fruit-flavored candies and chocolate! Who's to say that some of those who buy aren't adults???
Bernie, correct me if I'm wrong but I'd believe the board of advisors for the FDA are people from a bunch of drug companies, just like the Fed is really controlled by the banks they are supposed to regulate. The FDA is a fascist organization because it is corporate infiltrated.
Bernie, I don't smoke, but I don't think the government should be able to stop people from smoking if that's what they want to do. I don't think it's good to smoke, and I don't smoke, but I believe in free will.
I also think the anti smoking movement has distributed some misinformation, like second hand smoke is 10 times more dangerous than being an actual smoker. At the rate smoke dissipates into the air, that's physically imposable due to the concentration level.
Ok.. Lets destroy the Tobacco Industry.. then Turn around and Bail them out Thus taking over the Tobacco Industry as we did with GM, and all those other companies we own now.. Call me a Fortune teller but those "Jobs" will be lost.. Thus Americans who have jobs must pay to sustain their jobs... Sounds like a TRUE Democracy.. which exactly what we dont want.. Majority Rule?!
i thought cigarette ads were done a long time ago..the only "ads" i see are where you buy the cigarettes..candy flavors? i thought those were done in the late 90s..candy flavors? who make those?
Cigarrettes are a bit different than cigars or pipe tobbacco. What about all of the cancer causing/addiction causing additives put into cigarrettes. It's not just tobbacco.
440,000 smoking related deaths p/year - Im a former smoker and now I don't understand how the government allows the tobacco industry to create cigarettes which are a man made poisonous product with no purpose whatsoever... yet they throw cancer sufferers in prison for smoking pot which grows in the ground naturally and serves both recreational and medicinal purposes. Get a clue people! Go Bernie!

seems history, time, and science has the two most favorite smokeables going in the opposite directions.
Tobacco... once stylish, now a death sentence.
Cannabis...once a death sentence, now a cure.
ONE pack a day of tobacco = about 100 pounds of tobacco smoked per year.
ONE joint a day = about 3/4 of a pound per year.
440,000 tobacco related deaths per year.
EVERY YEAR.
ZERO cannabis deaths per EVER. NEVER a death.
food, clothing, shelter, recreation, fuel, and medicine.
