If you ask Bob Hentzen, Christian Foundation for Children and Aging (CFCA) president, why he's walking the 8,000 miles from Guatemala all the way to Chile, he'll tell you, "it's about love." He began his 12-country trek, known as Walk2gether, on December 29, 2009, and will end his journey in the summer of 2011.
Bob, who is 74 years old, wakes up at 2:30 a.m. and begins his daily walk of approximately 20-25 miles to help counteract the isolation of people living in poverty and show them that someone cares. Through Walk2gether, Bob is spending time with some of the 182,000 families CFCA serves in the countries he is walking through. He is listening and learning more about their lives, their daily struggles and their joys. By shedding light on the lives of those who are affected by poverty worldwide, Bob hopes to find sponsors in the U.S. for at least 8,000 children by the time he completes the walk — 8,000 miles for 8,000 kids.
Christian Foundation for Children and Aging is an international movement, serving people of all faiths in 23 developing countries. The CFCA sponsorship program, Hope for a Family, goes beyond the basics of providing food, education, health care and livelihood programs. It gives families hope that they can create a path out of poverty for their children. More than 94 percent of CFCA's expenses go toward program support.
