Johnny Mathis ~ I Was Born in Love With You & Summer Me, Winter Me

This very lovely medley was sung by Johnny on his "Me and Mrs. Jones", LP recorded in 1972. He magically put together two beautiful songs from the composer Michel Legrand and his writing partners of many wonderful songs, Alan and Marilyn Bergman, 'poets', as Johnny has called them. (see lyrics below for Summer Me, Winter Me, and you'll agree- it is pure poetry.... "I'll wrap you up and ribbon you, rainbow you, and shower you with shine!"...... "Forever me with love!" .. ).

I love the way Jay Landers, executive producer of many of Johnny's wonderful LPs/CDs (Mathis On Broadway, A Night To Remember, Isn't It Romantic, to name a few), writes about Johnny and his indelible style. (If you own or buy the above CDs you'll be treated to his comments in the liner notes). To quote just a few lines here: "Johnny Mathis is a storyteller. The way he shades and shapes a ballad is to hear the intimate details of a love affair unfolding.". More poetry! (quote from liner notes of " A Night to Remember" 2007).

I hope you'll enjoy this as much as I do. Johnny has also recorded these as separate songs on 'How Do You Keep the Music Playing"- another incredible collaboration between Johnny, Michel Legrand and Alan and Marilyn Bergman. The style is again completely different, and 'elegant'.

No one I have ever heard has had the effect on me that Johnny's voice has. His is without a doubt the best voice ever. He has a God given talent.

@flagday45 Yes, when a song is touched by Johhny, then it's his forever. I have loved this voice, and adored its origin for fifty years. From my teens. I have never seen him live, but I will in october. I'm going to UK (from Norway) to see him in all three concerts . Am I happy? Yes, and yes! Berit.

@beweau - I'm with you. The first time I heard Johnny's voice (in 1957) I was 12 years old and was completely spell bound. I have loved listening to him ever since and have heard him live many times. (Going to see him again on July 30th on Long Island, NY). I, too, have wondered if he really knows how much we fans adore him and what listening to him does to us.. I never tire of listening to him sing. Whenever Johnny sings a song, no matter who recorded that song, it becomes his.

Over a year ago someone named Gerrymoran1 put up a whole show from the 1980's in the UK- called Mathis Magic- it's terrific- so check that out. He no longer posts- but those are great.
