"Moonlight drive" (Version 1, recorded August 1966)

Words & music:The Doors
Album: "The Doors 40th Anniversary Edition"

Available in their 40th anniversary "The Doors" CD, the song is an early version of "Moonlight drive", Morrison's poem that got it all started when he sang it to Manzarek, in the summer of 1965. There's no Robby epic solo here, nor Jim's "mature" singing.

For the slideshow, I used pictures from the first photoshoots of the band.

The final rendition of "Moonlight drive" is available in "Strange days", The Doors' second record.

Enjoy!

PS: Offensive/idiotic comments will be erased. I'm all for freedom of speech but I will not tolerate dickheads who try to pick up a fight in order to find a meaning in their pathetic lives by dissing the band.
John, Ray, Jim and Robbie have opened "the doors of perception" for all of us; if you do not wish to enter, then you should simply FUCK OFF.
Thank you :)

  • My sister in law used to see him play in bars in Venice Beach and he would not face the crowd. He still held everyone, and I bet everyone who is still alive remembers those nights.

  • at least that tedious harmonica wasn't used on this one.

  • Just after midnight When closing my eyes Cuddling close to you For a moonlight drive Iridescent moon beams Shine on objects below Casting shadow silhouettes Luminescent silvery glow Crickets sing a lullaby That echo through the night Gentle breeze is blowing Everything feels so right Stars twinkling a rhythm In time with the radio Just the two of us together Enjoying nature's show Nothing is more beautiful Makes me feel more alive Then cuddling up to you For a moonlight drive
