V.S. Ramachandran is a neurologist best known for his work in the fields of behavioral neurology and psychophysics. He is currently the Director of the Center for Brain and Cognition, Professor in the Psychology Department and Neurosciences Program at the University of California, San Diego, and Adjunct Professor of Biology at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies.

In this talk he discusses his work on finding the neural basis for synesthesia.

  • The strangest part of watching this video was my reaction to his examples using numbers. I reacted much quicker to the numbers which were closer together than I did to those further apart. I wish I could ask him what that means!

  • That's simplifying it too much. Genes certainly can favor societies. If they did not we would not be watching this video much less anything else social. That you can be taught by someone, you can teach someone else what you learn here, and you can speak to each other at all are all social developments.
