One day in January we went to rescue a wild horse.

Here is a quote out of last months National Geographic.....

"Horses will likely be around as long as there are humans to attach themselves to a saddle. What is less sure is whether there will always be enough wild to allow mustangs to run in secure, functional, genetically viable herds. Driving home from the Rock Springs gather, through Pinedale to Jackson, I'd seen acres of the High Plains turned over to oil and gas development, rigs towering out of the frozen sage, the outskirts of towns bristling with man camps and trailer parks for the roughnecks. Oil field traffic hurried out on a web of roads, seeming to skim along on a silver-rimmed mirage. Road kill, mostly pronghorn and mule deer, lay bleaching on the verges in unprecedented numbers. No room for a wild horse to roam and no home for a wild horse to go to...."

  • Well done, very moving indeed. It is a sad state we have come to in the way we treat these native wild animals. We protect bears, bisons, wolves and they are predators. We are trying to annihilate wild horses, they are prey. No harm to anyone only of service.

I was somewhat reassured as I watched from my angle anyway, that the cowboys seemed to be careful about pushing too hard.. Small consolation. Beautiful video, this for sharing. How is ur horse coming along?

  • @Orreos Thanks very much. Yes, the cowboys actually were very humane and kind. I don’t feel like anyone WANTS it to be this way, accept for cattle ranchers. That is the entire reason these horses are in this predicament. I also learned that one reason there are so many wild horses today is because owners are abandoning them roadside and leaving their pets to fend for themselves. Amazing. Pass the message along - awareness is the first step.

  • Profoundly beautiful. Like you :)

  • @cafefreret Thanks Honey! How are you? Where are you?

  • @cafefreret Thanks Honey! Where are you these days?

  • @suzeiki Thanks so much - be sure to pass it along. Awareness is half the battle.
