Ballad Medley - Marty Grosz & his Hot Puppies 2005
Recorded at June 2005 Ascona Jazz Festival this fine band play an amazing set of very agreeable music. They perform some of the more popular standards, but with an ease and with a skill that few others can or bother to master.. The relaxed atmosphere comes across to the audience. These men know what they are doing. I remember cornetist Randy Reinhart and pianist John Sheridan from festivals in the USA when they were both members of the Jim Cullum Band. Jim always set high standards for his musicians which now pays off because they are on their own touring the world and play easy and relaxed jazz with great skill and on the long run, that's what it is basically all about.
Trombonist John Allred has developed to be one of the prime players in the world and under the relaxed leadership of guitarist Marty Grosz and three very capable European musicians this sounds like an all round winning music team
Marty Gross on guitar, Randy Reinhart cornet, John Allred trombone, John Sheridan piano. Frank Robertscheuten tenor sax, Nico Gastreich bass, Moritz Gastreich drums.
Absolutely wonderful, thanks

Nice set of tunes. Sometimes these things can drone on, but not with such great musicians... I got "Stars Fell on Alabama," "It's the Talk of The Town," "I Can't Believe That You're In Love With Me," and "I Don't Stand a Ghost of a Chance With You." Can anybody help me with the tune that Frank plays. I couldn't pick that one out...

I meant careful, not carefully.

The tenor saxophonist is awesome, but if he isn't carefully he's gonna get Dizzy Gillespie cheeks. Don't puff out your cheeks!
