I made this movie 2 years ago after hoping at every MacWorld that the Newton or something like it would appear. It was my desperate attempt to bring back the Newton after a series of disappointing PDAs. Maybe the iPhone will bring back the genius.
oh I was talking about the actual Newton Brand of Message Pads. Companies have tried to do it like Microsoft creating Windows CE (I believe that's what it's called). Back in 2001-2002 Steve said the PDA industry (Which Apple started) was a failing market. He also said that about the phone market. Instead of developing a PDA or a phone, Apple created a whole new platform similar to a PDA which includes cell phone functionality but isn't really just a phone.
just because jobs dropped the ball doesn't mean other companies won't dare, i can see a time especially with the new umpc class computers a cross hybrid of a touch pad UMPC will be available within a few years.
most likely toshiba and Sony will beat apple to the punch. and if you think the pathetic apple air is going to scare the Japanese remember when they released their umpc's they had a dvd drive and TWO usb ports!!
Sorry, the Newton will never come back, it wasn't taken out because of sales it was because of Jobs and his stubbornness. John Sculley made the Newton, and Jobs hated him he wanted all the products made by John gone. Apple may have made the first PDA, but I don't think there going to make another. The iPod and iPhone are going to a more open market as full fledge portable "micro" computer, not as an assistant. Although you can use them as such.
