I realize the visual on this isn't great, because Chris was sitting down and playing, but the audio....well, I'll let you be the judge! If you're a Stapleton fan, close your eyes and just listen. He's an amazing singer and brilliant songwriter...

Lyrics:
There's a bottle, on the dresser by your ring.
And it's okay, right now I don't feel a thing.
And I'll be hurting, when I wake-up on the floor,
But I'll be over it by noon....That's the difference between whiskey and you...

Come tomorrow, I can walk in any store,
It ain't a problem, they'll always sell me more.
But your forgiveness, that's something I can't buy...
Or anything that I can do...
That's the difference between whiskey and you.

One's a devil. One keeps driving me insane.
At times I wonder, if they ain't both the same.
One's a liar, helps to hide me from my pain,
One's a long, gone bed of truth.
And that's the difference between whiskey and you.

And I got a problem, but it ain't like what you think.
I drink because I'm lonesome and I'm lonesome cuz I drink.
But if I don't break down, and drink it all myself.
It'll hit out of the blue,
That's the difference between whiskey and you.

One's a devil. One keeps driving me insane.
At times I wonder, if they ain't both the same.
One's a liar, helps to hide me from my pain,
One's a long, gone bed of truth.
And that's the difference between whiskey and you.

That's the difference between whiskey and you.

Songwriter—Chris Stapleton (I don't know if Chris has a co-writer on this song, if he does, I am MORE than happy to give them props!!)

  • I dont understand how someone could look at this version and toby keiths version....

and NOT say..."why was this redone?"

this version...even recorded by a little camera....is FAR more soulful and emotional than Toby's ...no offense to toby, but Chris just owns passion

  • @benbartelman Any time the writer of the song plays it (in this case, Chris is one of the co-writers of this song) it is an amazing look at how the process of creation comes about. That being said, I don't know anyone who wouldn't recognize that Chris Stapleton is one of the BEST singers anywhere....any genre. He's also brilliant. So, if anyone asks why Chris 'redid' Tim McGraw's song, tell 'em he sang it first, cuz he wrote it! :) Thanks for checking out my video....

  • To the person who posted a comment earlier...I am so sorry, I accidently deleted your post. You are welcome to repost! In answer to your question, I don't have others of Chris. Have just started video'ing when I go to shows so that others can enjoy the live music in Nashville! :)

  • thank you so much for posting! i was at this show, first time i've seen chris stapleton perform and i've been checking youtube in hopes someone would post it!

  • You are most welcome. I have heard Chris so many times, and it NEVER gets old! He's amazing! Glad you got to hear him live! (And this song is fantastic!) :)

  • How is it possible that this guy is not a superstar.............I guess maybe he doesn't want to be. Very, very few can sing (or play) with such GENUINE feeling. I hate that he left the Steeldrivers.
