At last, Jan Akkerman demystifies 'Hocus Pocus' and plays it on acoustic guitar, so that the 'ordinary' guitarist can get to grips with it. Without use of electric guitar, the tune is now bare, clear and accessible to all. So, grab your acoustic guitar, pull up a chair, and watch this video two (or maybe even three) times, to get a full command of this wonderful piece of music. See how Jan here sticks to use of very basic notes and runs, to ensure that most musicians can pick up the rudimentary elements without much effort. Note: Perhaps wise not to take this introduction (to an illustration of extreme virtuosity) too seriously!

Jan Akkerman performed a stunning solo acoustic guitar set to an appreciative audience at the Cultuur Centrum, Zundert, The Netherlands on Saturday, September 26th, 2009.

  • Wow! I didn't realize seeing this tune laid bare would make it so easy to learn. I only watched it twice and had every note down cold!!

  • wicked

  • @Frobe1357 I always rated him as one of the best every .... I bought Moving Waves in Jan 72!

  • One of the best guitarists of the last 50 years!

  • He's awesome got entranced by his playing as a twelve year old kid when focus appeared on the old grey whistle test " an English version of rockplast " he'll always be in my top ten.

  • One of the best and perhaps the most under rated guitarist in the last 50 years.

  • Thank you for posting this!

  • Pure musical genius, I shall say no more other than I have been listening to this tune since the early 70's and still don't know how the Hell he does it either electric or "acousstic". Wonderful.

  • Very demystifying!

  • this guy is simply amazing in a class of his own
