The University of Utah Singers perform "Lay a Garland" by Robert Pearsall live in concert, October 30, 2009 in Libby Gardner concert hall under the direction of Dr. Brady Allred.
When I did this piece this was around the temp we took it, maybe just a few clicks slower. I really like the way the layers flower at this tempo, just my taste I guess.
Beautiful. Yes, a bit fast, especially for the chain suspensions (which are a tough nut to crack), but you make it work. You remind us that the piece is, after all, a "madrigal".

the score says that it was the composer's intention to not be sung too fast. beautifully done though

May be faster than we are all used to, but I think we can all conclude that Dr. Allred knows his stuff. So I won't question the accelerated tempo.

I believe it started out too loud. Gorgeous tone though.

WAY too fast. you can't even hear all the beautiful suspension chains.

on the other hand, some of the singers are quite fit - so it's not all bad

too quick! this is English music - we take our time! how else can you truly have all those suspensions?
