  • if i'm in open A already, it's enjoyable to play piney woods if it's called for. lots of harmonies you don't get from the c#, and it keeps you on your toes a bit.

  • Awesome! I just played Piney Woods here yesterday... great tunes. You sound awesome.

  • leave the john salyer to kentuckians, play your own regional stuff

  • Traditionally, piney woods is played in AEAC# tuning. I call it 'open A' tuning, because you've basically got all the notes from an A major chord there. Another well known tune which uses this tuning is the drunkards hiccups (see tommy jarrell's rendition), but other than that, the only other tunes i've heard which utilize the tuning are 'the swung john brown from an old apple tree' (Jim Taylor) and 'thumping Jesus' (Brad Leftwich). Hope that helps!

  • sorry, guess i should have just listend to the guy at the beginning... that was a hell of a song you played so i hope you won. have you ever been t dave macon days over in murfreesboro?

  • do you live in tennessee too?

  • Good job. Man, that takes guts.
