  • @munchkinsmomable Human participation is a choice in all horse sports. At the start no horse chooses to participate - they are 'broke in' and have no choice in the matter - and that goes for ALL disiplins. I dont like seeing a racehorse fall - nor do i like seeing an eventer fall, or rodeo bronc, ect. Didnt say there isnt money init - BUT the people makin money already have money - Darley, Ballydoyle, Godolphin are the ones who put money in because they already have money.

  • @shagakah Horse-racing is a multi-million dollar business in some venues. Someone's making money, & I was not referring to the jockeys or the trainer's/caretakers, so no offense to you necessarily. Again, human participation is a choice. Every time I see a horse go over a rail, or a horse goes down & gets trampled by all those behind him who in turn are injured as well, I still continue to feel sorry for the horses, not the men/women who had made the choice to participate. Your turn. :)

  • @munchkinsmomable and we've had one horse put down, and it wasn't even on the course it was a work morning at home. Not all jockeys return, manhy are left with serious injuries - there is a jockey in the uk who took a fall in march and he's only out of icu a few weeks. As for money - between training fees, lads and travel expenses, jockey club/weatherbys fees - you have to have a proper good horse to make alot of money. The average horse's owners are in it for the sport, money won pays the way.

  • @munchkinsmomable I said they get turn out weather permitting, not race. The race in the same weather conditions as any other horse getting ridden. tracks have strict regulations on the quality of the track, but i am aware there are different quality tracks throughout the world. They get the same treatment as any other horse who breaks down - euthanized if nothing can be done or they have no outlook for good quality of life following the injury. Ive been with the same trainer for 6 years...

  • @shagakah Weather permitting my ass. I've seen plenty of horse racing take place in icy cold rain and muddy conditions. As for there being a lot more to horse-racing, sure there is! Loads of money to be made in it. In your defense, I agree that they probably do get better treatment than most animals. However, if a horse is seriously injured or just breaks a leg, they shoot the horse. If a jockey is injured, he is treated and returns to ride another day. Just seems a "little" unbalanced.

  • @Ladyrox985 Majority of ex racehorses are now being retrained in racehorse to riding horse shows. Majority of trainers/owners will do all they can to rehome a horse once its racing days are over. Our local trainers association even publishes articles offering advise on finding suitable homes. We give away several horses a year to good homes they retrain them and sell them onto eventing/showing/pleasure homes. Its a very common but misguided theory that they are all on their way to slaughter.

  • @munchkinsmomable Does any horse "ask" to be ridden at all? Theres alot more to horse racing than putting a horse's life at stake. The majority of racehorses are well cared for and the majority go throughout their career without even minor injuries. I work in racing, all our horses have weekly chiropractor checks, jacuzzi, sauna and daily turnout (weather permitting). Dentist, farrier and vet are on call at all times. How many general riding horses get that kind of treament?

  • Horses are very strong, lovely and stupid!!!

  • @freakingquimbis I'm sure neither one of the horses "asked" to be put into a position where their lives were at stake. And that's all horse-racing is. The people are the one's at fault, not the horses.

  • a colt is not a she
