The full (not teaser) trailer for the film adaptation of Murakami Haruki's masterful book, Norweigan Wood.

Just shown at Cannes, it will be in Japanese cinemas by December.

The casting is very impressive, most of all for the peripheral characters - Kizuki, Hatsumi and Nagasawa. Reiko always annoyed me so I can't say I care either way about who was cast for her crap role.

Enjoy.

  • What is the book like, please? :-]

  • @AnastasiaGNP if you're white, you'll be salivating and getting horny off of it. because murakami worships white shit like their worthless music and food. the protagonist is forever having pea soup and listening to some pathetic white 'music' from the 50s.

if you're not white, or worse, whitified, then you'll have the intelligence to cut through all that garbage and see what a good writer Murakami is. you'll also realize that he's in no way masterful, but he does have his moments.

  • @idrepublix I can't get over the irony of you typing in english

  • @jinnaboy No irony in my parents moving to the motherland of the colonialist rapists after their centuries-long rape of their country and my speaking the language, you cringing fuck. More than fair, and they didn't thieve - like yours - they worked. Lots of irony, tough, in the fucks that were your grandpappies raping my country for so long - and never leanring the language the whole. fucking. time.

    You=fail.

  • Reiko always annoyed you? Why? Like all of the characters in "Norwegian Wood", she is very deep, interesting, and central to the themes of the work.

  • just finished the book, I can't wait to see this!

  • Finally got to see the movie a few days ago. Very faithful to the novel, well-made and truly beautiful. I did not know this, but Haruki Murakami actually co-wrote the script as well.

I cannot wait for it to get released so I could re-watch it.

  • @skilledtrailers I recommend one I just read for my Honor Spanish Class this year, its called After Dark and you can even find it in pdf, I loved it. You can try it out to see if you do too... awesome, japanese lit

  • @idrepublix, epic posting. Very entertaining to read, but because I know absolutely nothing about this author, I have no reference from which to consider the arguments on either side.

However, your bitter (ok, hateful) words have inspired me to investigate this guy and see what all the fuss is about. So which book would you recommend I read if I were to choose just one? I want a book that is enjoyable but also clearly displays some of the cultural issues/obsessions you are criticizing.

  • @idrepublix Literature are full of shit, it just matters if the 'shit' touches you on a personal level or not and when it does sink deeply enough, it becomes something quiet magical. :]

  • It's the sort of book, I can pick up and just flip to any page on a lazy day and read it over and over again. It's like revisiting an old friend, quiet magical. I can never get bored of it.

  • @idrepublix Hmmm... well thank you :) Erm, I'm half Russian, half Mexican... but I promise to cut through the 'garbage' :D

oh and what do you mean by " 'music' "

  • ken'ichi kun, let me know where is yukihiro san. can't find him in a movie. Harry did a good job, thou.
