The Legend of how Maui caught the Great Fish that is the North Island of New Zealand.

Animated by Thomas Le Bas, for a Digital Animation assignment at Massey University. Illustrations influenced by Peter Gossage.

Storyline has been edited to fit the length of the animation.

  • Just legends. Maori have only been i NZ for seven hundred years. They originate from east Polynesia.

  • Same as the Mauifusifonua who fished up the Tonga islands to. All sons of Maui in one way or another aye.

  • @muzzatube some say it was Maui's canoe. but there are also other legends about it's origins.
